According to the Quran, Hadith and Sharia law,

• “Men are in charge of women” Quran 4:34

• “And men are a degree above women" Quran 2:228

• A woman, according to Quran 43:18 “is a creature who in dispute cannot make herself clear” and Prophet Muhammad felt women were “lacking in intelligence” (Sahih Bukhari 1:301)

• The Prophet said “a nation headed by a woman will never succeed, and the worst sin and distraction from virtue is by women”. (Sahih Bukhari 4425). Also the “majority of Hell's residents were women”(Sahih Bukhari 2:541)

• Women inherit half as much as their male counterparts (Quran 4:11-12).

• When it comes to testimony in courts, women must testify in pairs, as one man’s testimony is equivalent to two women in Islamic courts. (Sahih Bukhari 1:6:301)

• According to the Quran, women need four male witnesses for a rapist to be prosecuted. There is no such provision if a man accuses his wife of adultery, in which case his testimony is enough.

Quran 24.6 As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth

Shariah Law adds that these men need to be of good character before she can have her rapist prosecuted. In practise one might question their character if all they were doing was watching instead of providing assistance. Subsequently we have a situation where the Pakistan's National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) estimated 80% of women were jailed in 2003 because "they had failed to prove rape charges and were consequently convicted of adultery."

• When it comes to clothing, men only need to cover their private parts yet women are supposed to Cast their outer garments over their persons (Quran 33:59). The Prophet’s wives wore the full niqab/burkha with just one or 2 eyes showing, and some Muslims feel this is obligatory even today.

On a medical note, sunlight produces essential Vitamin D which is used for about 800 different processes in the human body. Lack of it can cause diseases like rickets so it is not advisable unless the deficiency is supplemented by other means.

• Menstruation is an illness requiring purification and spiritual cleansing, rather than a monthly shedding of the womb lining.

Quran 2:222 They question thee (O Muhammad) concerning menstruation. Say: It is an illness, so let women alone at such times and go not in unto them till they are cleansed. And when they have purified themselves

• Women can only marry Muslims and have a single partner (Quran 2:221), while men don’t have to marry Muslims and can marry up to four women (Quran 4:3).

• A woman should not fast without the permission of her husband, nor can she marry anyone without the permission of her father, brother or male guardian. (Sahih Bukhari 5192)

• Women are not allowed to travel outside without a male relative (Bukhari 1763), moreover it’s a sin for a woman to talk to any other man outside of her family household (known as her ‘mehrram’):

Quran 33.
